When in Doubt, WALK!

I once saw a doctor on a news show that was talking about general health issues.  The interviewer on the program concluded the conversation with the doctor by saying, “Doctor, we have ten seconds left.  If you could give us one thing we could do to better our health, what would it be?”  The doctor without hesitation said one word, “Walk.”

Friends if there is one thing that always gets put on the backburner in our lives, it is taking the time to exercise.  My question is this:  ”Is there anything more important that your health?”  I believe that the answer is NO.

Exercise comes in many forms.  If you have never given much thought to exercise, let me point you in the direction of where to start; go for a walk.  Start by walking three times per week for 20 minutes.  By doing this, you will start making your heart healthier, your bones stronger, your mood better, your blood pressure and weight lower, and your energy levels higher.  Starting doesn’t need to be any more complicated than that.

If you have a husband, wife, child, or a next door neighbor, encourage them to walk with you.  The more the merrier, and the more consistent you will be when you have made a ‘date’ with another person to walk.

It is a new year.  Make the commitment now to YOU and the most valuable part of your life.  You will be making a commitment to a better life for you and those around you.  Don’t worry about lifting weights, getting a gym membership, or a complicated workout video to get started.  Just walk!  The rest will follow.  So get out and walk!  Doctor’s orders.
